The city of Sunrise in western Broward, is home to the largest outlet mall in the USA – Sawgrass Mills. At last count there were 350 stores, with household brand names and top designer stores to tempt the estimated 22 million annual visitors. The Sawgrass Sanctuary Park is a 20-acre park built to protect the fragile eco-system of the wetlands and provide education and recreation to the general public and nearby schools. Twenty-five percent of the city’s diverse population is under the age of 18 and is served by 11 public schools, a number of private institutions and several pre-schools.
